Greetings, Dancers! Kalispell International Folk Dancers gather again this Saturday night, Feb. 6, from 7 to 10 p.m., at the Salvation Army gym, located a block south of the hospital at 110 Bountiful Drive. Julie & Scott from Helena joined us last week, albeit a bit late, since they insisted on turning around and doing most of the trip from Helena over again. Such dedication. They said they had forgotten their passports. I knew the Flathead Valley was getting insular, but I had no idea. (Actually, they were traveling through to Canmore to catch some of the qualifying events for the Vancouver Olympics. Sounded like great fun! It was great to see them.) We celebrated Sam's birthday and had an exellent session. For new dancers, easier dances are taught for at least the first hour, with more advanced dancing later in the evening. As usual this week, a donation of $3 per person is requested for rental of the gym. Next week will be the February Contra Dance on Saturday, Feb. 13, with Bev Young calling and Skippin a Groove from Missoula providing music, at the Salvation Army gym. Joe Fisher advises that along with the dance, there will be a fundraiser Silent Auction (with optional Valentine theme) to help keep Flathead Contradancers financially solvent. Bring a special something to contribute as an auction item (baked good, jewelry, book, use your imagination) and/or a little extra money to bid on something special and help keep these dances going. If you wish to RSVP with an auction item, you can call Kathy at 862-6882. Or just bring it with you on the 13th. Hope to see you there! Free, newcomers welcome. We teach each dance as if it has never been taught before so that no one will feel ill at ease. No special shoes are required, although most people find it easiest to dance in something with a soft, flexible sole. You do not need to have a partner to come dance. All ages are welcome. Questions, call 855-2715. Mark your calendars for the rest of the year: back at St. Luke's for March 5, April 2, May 7.
