Kalispell International Folk Dancers

Hi Everyone,

WebMD website:Coronavirus on Fabric: What You Should Know.

Max & Eva Hello dancing friends,

Anyone missing dancing? Max and I are planning to dance Saturday night from 7:30-8:30. We’ll plan to dance from Amanda’s list (below) and have a treat afterward.

Last week we did dances from Hora Veche , up through the Les Noto. and finished off with Floriciča, which we know but don’t dance very well yet. It was fun and good exercise. We found we could do all the dances in that segment except Lasske Vanocni Kolo, which we remembered “learning” several years ago.

Here’s from Don and Rose:

"Thanks for the encouragement! Hope you are staying well and enjoying life in sequester. We have limited room inside but are with you in spirit. Longer days encourage outside work, so we were still at dinner when you were dancing, but we were listening to folk music via iTunes on the laptop and Bluetooth speaker. Did Vidinsko Oro and a couple of others later around the kitchen island. Friday night we did our first outdoor grill of the season, and I was doing Duna and Syrtos Kitrinou on the lawn while the food cooked. Neighbors are few, and the squirrels don't seem to care. Also we did a few dances the previous Saturday night: Somogyi Karikazo, Zavlitsena (from the distant past) and tried to review Momino Horo and Paidusko (yahoo). We like to put the iTunes play list on shuffle. I have a long list of "favorites" and when one tune sparks a memory, we pull it up on video and check it out. Thanks for the video links as well. We also got that from Amanda, and Cecelia sent some other links. How can it be hard to keep up with it all, when there's nothing else going on? Lately I've been intrigued by Kopacka, and especially the very fast second part, which nobody ever does. Russ had mentioned it was taught on line in an Emily Nisbet video. She slows it down, so maybe I'll try to learn it.

Cheers,
Don and Rose"

Marianne has suggested that we try using Zoom for dancing together, but Max thinks the technology of using the computer for both Zoom and play list would be complicated, and using external sources for the music played through the computer microphone would get a lot of distortion. Anybody have suggestions or want to set this up?

Stay well, send news

Susan H taught Laske Vanocni Kolo at SS2018, and we danced it for Mitchell's birthday.

**** April 3rd 8pm Central Time. Ethnic Dance Chicago

**** Saturday afternoons, in two Virtual Dance Workshops: 2:00 - 2:40 and 3:00 - 3:40 EDT. April 4th is teacher Roberto Bagnoli from Rome, who cut his teeth on Italian dances, then branched out to Israeli dance and international folk dance. There's a suggested donation of $10.00, with all proceeds going to keep the Folk Arts Center afloat through the current circumstances.

Last week, I found Zoom very easy to access. Ahmet Luleci taught 6 dance over 2+ hours. The majority were simple ones. He's taught most before, including Inaduna. Even so, it was fun to get his styling and comments. Other well-known instructors hopped on in support and some will be teaching sessions in the next month. At times it was a bit like Miss Jane on Romper Room with her magic mirror, as Ahmet greeted people he knew. I can't wait to share these dances with you.

**** The next virtual dance party: Saturday, APRIL 11, 3pm to 6pm, US CALIFORNIA TIME (PDT).

The first one last Saturday was fun, especially for me watching as they worked out the kinks in real time with people assisting one another to participate better. I watched via Zoom, others found facebook easier. They think ~1500 people joined in or watched the last party. Dance requests can be sent in ahead of time.
