Our regular Kalispell International Folk Dancing Saturday, Dec. 13, from 7 to 10 p.m. It's a great way to celebrate and to work off those sugar plum calories.
We’ve been working quite a bit on Mascatii (traditionally danced only at Christmas season) and on Female Saylor, so that several of our dancers who are also singers could perform it at the holiday party for the Crown of the Continent Choir. Hope it went well.
Reminder: For those who can use a winter weekend dance get-away, Sally Jenkins now has the schedule for the Veselo Festival in Eugene, OR, Jan. 31-Feb. 1, featuring Yuliyan Yordanov teaching Bulgarian dance. Location: Veteran's Memorial Building, 1626 Willamette St, Eugene. Weekend package: $50 (or $35 for seniors.)
Cecelia in Bozeman has forwarded the following info about an upcoming Scandinavian workshop in Billings: The 25th annual Sons of Norway District IV Folk Dance Workshop will be publicized as a Scandinavian Dance and Music Workshop, to held in Billings March 20-21. It will start Friday afternoon with the Swedish hambo and some variations and continue Friday evening and Saturday with Scandinavian couple and figure dances. The workshop ends Saturday evening with a banquet and dance party. We have contacted Nordic Spirit from Tacoma to provide live music for the workshop. They would do music instruction for fiddle and accordion and play for some dance instruction and the Saturday night dance party - all in the Scandinavian tradition. (The music part is still a bit tentative.) Workshop information and registration forms will be available on line at Scandinavian workshop in Billings by the middle of January. (We will be asking for some funding help at the January 9th meeting of the Billings S/N lodge.)
