Kalispell International Folk Dancers

2026 Camp and Stamp

Hi Everyone! Thanks for taking the time to drive the long miles to dance. A warm day but not too warm inside the building. We all had a great time dancing, and learning a few Greek dances from Jerry and Jill. Much appreciated.

Ikariótikos Greek Jerry and Jill ee-kah-ree-oh-TEE-kohss (stress on TEE) done in 2/4 time - Slow Quick Quick
Thanks to Andrew Carnie's website search for Ikariotikos:
The two YouTube groups shown here somewhat captures what was done today, and both are using the same music we have.
Video 1 is from Summer Event June 2009, 7th Primary School of Petroupolis, Greece.
Video 2 is from the 2014 St. Paul Greek Festival.
Styling is very very different between the two, like the game of telephone, the further you are away from the original message, the more likely the message gets shorter and garbled.
The Closest Syllabus PDF I've found to match what we learned is from Stockton Folk Dance Camp 2001. Ikariotikos taught by Athan Karras. We just did the introduction step, then the basic Ikariotiko step. There are many variations. Jerry and Jill kept it simple for us.:-)
Haniotikos Greece, Crete Jerry and Jill ha-nee-oh-TEE-kos (stress on TEE)
Zagorisios Greece, Epiros Jerry and Jill zah-goh-REE-see-ohs (stress on REE)
